ePORE® therapy is a precision cancer treatment that involves the application of short electrical pulses to cancer cells using a special probe. The pulses render the tumour cell porous which enables the local absorption by the tumour of drugs or molecules such as calcium. The cell toxicity is limited to the site of the tumour where the electrical pulses are applied and the patient experiences few side effects.
The electrical pulses are delivered in seconds and do not destroy the surrounding healthy tissue. Your doctor will decide which type of drug to use based on your type of cancer.
ePORE® therapy with CUTIS can be used for cancers that are located on the skin or just below the surface of the skin (<20mm deep).
ePORE® therapy itself is typically delivered in a matter of minutes, however the choice of anaesthesia used will largely determine the stay in hospital. Your clinician will advise you on the steps involved and what type of anaesthesia that is appropriate for your case.
There are few side effects associated with ePORE® therapy and will vary depending on the nature of the cancer being treated e.g. cutaneous or gastrointestinal.
Your clinician will discuss the potential side effects with you and how they may be managed.
It might be necessary to have more than one session of ePORE® therapy depending on the size, type and location of the tumour and/or if new lesions form. Your clinician will discuss all the available options and best course of treatment available which will vary with each individual patient.
In the case of cutaneous/skin the treated lesions may form a scab in the days and weeks after the procedure and this is part of the healing process. It will look worse before improvements are seen.
For cutaneous lesions you may feel slight pain and a feeling of warmth where the lesion was treated. Your follow up care will be explained by the clinician responsible for your treatment.
